Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce) is a particular business transaction with electronic media. It gives enterprises the opportunity to conduct the business processes more rapidly and more efficiently. So business partners are always up-to-date.
As the data can be transfered worldwide, we can send quotations, orders, delivery notes and invoices within seconds. So we can say that E-Commerce is very comfortable because we have access to all the necessary information at any time and any place. Furthermore business partners may contact each other via e-mail more rapidly, so each business process can be accelerated.
Nevertheless, we have to admit that E-Commerce does not only have advantages. Indeed, such a business transaction makes the pressure on competitors higher and higher, there are more and more price battles. So what about customer loyality? It will definitely decrease if the customers realize that they can buy their favourite products much cheaper elsewhere, and that with the same quality! We even have to think about the security of their personal data, e.g. credit card information. Beyond these facts the technical devices require high acquisition and follow-up costs. As there are no international business rules either, especially concerning the tax law and the copyright, legal problems can occur from time to time.
Finally each company has to decide on their own if E-Commerce is a good solution for them or not. There are many opportunities for data security nowadays like the so-called "secure sockets layer certificates", network protocols which transfer data securely. If a company wants to be successful worldwide, it should take the chance to step into the great wide open and conduct its business processes via E-Commerce.
